Can you tell me a bit about yourself?

I was born and raised in Taiwan. After High School, I came to Hong Kong to study at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST). I completed my Bachelor’s in Computer Science prior to joining Eclipse. During my study at HKUST, I was a Robotics Team member and I love both software and electronics!

Why did you join Eclipse?

Eclipse is a small-medium sized company with over 100 people globally, so it’s easy to get to know everyone in the company!

I joined as a fresh graduate and participated in a two-month rotation program. I got to work in other teams and learn about the differing roles they play to assist in the completion of day-to-day trading.

Describe your role and tell me about your work every day.

I am a Software Developer in the Trading System Development (TSD) Team. Our main responsibility is to maintain our internal trading system which includes PNL calculation, Order Management and Pricing. TSD support is also responsible for handling production issues related to our applications.

In our team, we use Jira tickets to keep track of our daily development work.

Every two weeks we have a team sprint, where we will be assigned some exciting project work, along with some day-to-day work requested by trading teams and some system improvement work.

Everyone in the TSD team has the opportunity to take up the “support” and “scrum master” roles on a rotating basis for our team sprints.

What is it like living and working in Hong Kong?

Hong Kong is a busy city that has a strong, cultural vibe. Despite its size, there’re lots of islands to explore, mountains to hike, and a lot of water sports to enjoy.

“Work hard on weekdays, Play hard/rest on weekends” is a great way to describe what it’s like living and working in HK!

What would you say to someone considering a career at Eclipse?

Based on my own experience, for fresh graduates who want to become a trader or developer in a proprietary trading company, joining Eclipse is a good opportunity. The rotation program for developers and the trainee trader program are really helpful for students to learn how the business works and how to work effectively in the business. Senior staff are very willing to teach juniors and get them up to speed. Combined with a good work/life balance, Eclipse is a great way for graduates to kickstart their career in the proprietary trading industry.
